Hosted by ABC Radio Adelaide’s Jason Chong, this laugh-out-loud, 90-minute show starred 10 performers who shared (and hilariously overshared) their personal experiences and relatable banter.
The line-up was well selected, offering unique comedy styles. Some performers were recognisable from Have You Been Paying Attention (Ten), Utopia (ABC), and Celebrity Letters and Numbers (SBS).
Jason Chong – who is no stranger to the mic or stand-up comedy – warmly welcomed the audience by honouring the different cultures in attendance. We greeted groups from China, India, Lebanon, Hong Kong, and Malaysia (to name a few) with cheer! Jason was an excellent host, who added his own comedic flare and funny one-liners.
We laughed with Urvi Majumdar as she recounted stories from her Indian family upbringing. Lawrence Leung made the crowd double over with laughter as he described his ‘stereotypical nerdy’ schooling days and later wowed us with his extraordinary skills in solving a Rubik’s Cube but not in a way you’d imagine. Takashi Wakasugi, a Japanese comedian, had everyone in hysterics as he spoke about pizza and the different ways people enjoy eating their leftovers – let’s just say you don’t want to be the person who microwaves their pizza… Takashi’s observations (and human hierarchy depending on how you heat your pizza) had the crowd entertained for the entire set; definitely one to remember!
The show was lots of fun, offering an opportunity to hear from skilled and rising comedians.
