Through this exciting initiative, Adelaide Film Festival Goes to Cannes, Australian filmmakers will be introduced to a global network of industry professionals. The selected participants will have the opportunity to connect with sales agents, distributors, programmers, and other key players from the international film scene.
The Goes to Cannes initiative forms a crucial part of the Adelaide Film Festival’s broader mission to engage internationally, offering filmmakers an invaluable opportunity to establish connections and make their mark in the global market.
Filmmakers working on feature films that align with this initiative are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest by midday on 17 March 2025. Both South Australian and national AFFIF alumni are eligible to apply, provided they have a completed or nearly finished project looking for market investment. The project must also have potential to make a positive economic, cultural, or creative impact on South Australia.
The festival is particularly interested in films that are ready or close to completion, seeking international sales agents, and are backed by a solid finance plan. This may include confirmed investors, as well as established cast and crew who have experience with festival selections or theatrical releases.
As part of its commitment to nurturing creative talent, the Adelaide Film Festival has played a pivotal role in advancing the careers of many filmmakers, offering vital support through the AFF Investment Fund. Over the years, this has led to a number of significant films being showcased on the world stage, including Lesbian Space Princess (winner of the Berlinale 2025 Teddy Award) and Jimpa, which was featured at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.
Expressions of interest from First Nations filmmakers are highly encouraged.
“Having a film showcased at Cannes is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” says Andrea Michaels, Minister for the Arts.
“For our local filmmakers, this is an incredible chance to present their work at the world’s biggest film market and build meaningful global connections.”
The Adelaide Film Festival 2025 runs from 15 to 26 October. To submit an Expression of Interest or for more details, visit Adelaide Film Festival – Goes to Cannes.
