Building on Guildhouse’s successful Catapult Mentorship initiative, which has already supported over 50 mentorships, this new partnership offers a South Australian visual artist, craftsperson, or designer a six-month residency. The residency will culminate in a public program or new work presented as part of the 2025 Adelaide Fringe.
Truc Truong, who works with portraiture, assemblage, and installation, explores themes like power, identity, family, and displacement, often drawing from her Vietnamese heritage. After graduating with First Class Honours from the University of South Australia in 2022, Truc has exhibited widely across the country. Her mentorship will be with sculptor Jennifer Mathews, focusing on developing welding and steel fabrication skills to enhance her future work.
Truc said, “I’m incredibly excited for this mentorship, as it allows me to dive deeper into new skills and push the boundaries of my practice.”
This partnership, supported by the James and Diana Ramsay Foundation, aims to provide meaningful professional development for local visual artists. Both Guildhouse and Adelaide Fringe are excited to see the outcome of Truc’s work during the 2025 Adelaide Fringe, where she’ll showcase new pieces that combine textiles and steel fabrication techniques.
