Adelaide Fringe review: La Ronde

Even though La Ronde is predominantly made up of individual solo variety acts, the ensemble’s focused teamwork is palpable all through the production.

This world premiere presented by Strut and Fret, employs a top-notch collection of artists who entertain so thoroughly from start ‘til finish with such incredible skill, it’s easy to forget they’re mere mortals.

Each of them are blessed with extremely appealing physicality and display remarkable expertise; concentration of the highest-level, demonstrates years of training with outstanding finesse. This truly is excellent entertainment.

La Ronde in the Spiegeltent has some of the most thrilling physical work you’ll ever see in an intimate setting. It’s all highlights; pole dancing in mid-air, Sergiy Mishchurenko, from the Ukraine, breathtaking, stunning to watch, as is the absolutely awe inspiring Polina from Belarus, who unbelievably hangs from her hair presenting a hypnotic act.

Diana Bondarenko from Germany performs on a pyramid-trapeze, in a superb display of physicality, hovering above the enthralled audience. Colombian Felipe Reyes, a mouth-hanging aerialist, presents an arrestingly dramatic phoenix themed fire act spinning above centre stage.

Australia’s own Adam Malone, a trapeze maestro, presents extreme skills with hoops and gravity defying moves that make the most of his masculine physique. One by one this very attractive bunch reveal superpowers in an effortless way that makes this type of show incredibly compelling and we certainly do see quite a lot of them as the show progresses, particularly the outrageously comically gifted Sam Goodburn from the United Kingdom; he takes audience participation to a new level and literally has them eating out of his hand!

Blending the program together is the fabulous Gigi McFarlane, billed as the darling of the European cabaret scene, strutting, contorting and singing, rousing everyone to clamour for more. If there is one show that puts the unearthly delights in the garden, this is surely it. A stellar five stars!

La Ronde is on at The Spiegeltent at The Garden of Unearthly Delights until 23 March. Get tickets here.
