Inspired by the famous waiters’ races that have taken place in cities like London and Paris for more than a century, this unique event is a celebration of front-of-house teams and their ability to stay poised under pressure.
Set in Town Square of Tasting Australia, contestants will race around the square, each balancing a tray with the same set of items, trying to outpace each other while keeping everything steady. The race will be lively and full of excitement, with a commentator adding to the fun as the competitors dash across the CBD.
The rules are straightforward: participants must race to the finish line as quickly as possible, but without running, spilling, or using both hands to carry their tray. It’s a test of skill, balance, and speed, all wrapped up in a vibrant, competitive atmosphere.
This inaugural Waiters’ Race is open to employees of South Australian cafes, restaurants, hotels, and bars. It will take place on Sunday, 4 May, with a briefing at 4pm and the race starting at 4:30pm in Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga.
