Local businesses +One (Plus One) and Better Together Pre-loved Fashion have joined forces to create the ultimate shopfront for sustainable dressing in Adelaide.
The businesses now trade side by side on King William Road, Hyde Park, in a destination space for all kinds of second-hand and rental clothing and accessories.
+One prides itself on catering to all sizes, with a heavy focus on pregnant women. Better Together Pre-loved Fashion focuses on selling high end, good quality second-hand clothes.
Owners Eden Hansen (Better Together) and Eli Doyle (+One) say sharing the space in Hyde Park creates an opportunity in an area that before now, was untapped for pre-loved fashion and dress hire.
“Our beautiful boutique space makes for a new way of shopping pre-loved, and focuses on marketing to a more higher end market,” says Eden. “We want customers to feel they’re shopping at a boutique; we provide a feel very different to the average op shop.”
“Our brands, our style and our extended range of sizing are what attracts our shoppers to our King William Road location,” says Eli.
Eden and Eli met when Eli used Better Together Pre-loved Fashion’s services, and their friendship grew into a business partnership through a mutual love for sustainable fashion.
Both businesses began their journey in 2021, with the King William Road location providing a second home for Better Together Pre-loved Fashion after their Payneham store in March this year.
With a similar timeline, Eden says the shared space in Hyde Park offers a unique shopping experience.
“We hope to have created a space that is the extension of our home. We invite people to stay and try things on in their own time,” says Eden. “It’s a space where we want people to feel comfortable bringing high-end clothes to us worth recycling.”
“One of the main reasons I began Better Together Pre-loved Fashion was because fast fashion is run by big companies producing garments in bulk for low prices, with no care for the people making the items, or the environmental impact both whilst making the products.”
Eli created +One after seeing a gap in the market for pregnancy-friendly dress hire. Catering for sizes 6 to 18, she says it’s extraordinary how much women are embracing the rental trend.
“It began from the spare bedroom of my house when I was five months pregnant – I had pregnant friends borrowing my clothes frequently and one day thought, there is room for a great service for women going through pregnancy and into postpartum,” says Eli.
“It’s a time when women’s bodies are changing so quickly you shouldn’t have to feel the need to commit to buying. We’ve also been able to expand the +One online platform to assist our interstate clients.”
Better Together Pre-loved Fashion and +One are located at 74-76 King William Road, Hyde Park, open seven days a week for Better Together Pre-loved Fashion and by appointment only for +One.
